Each year, the Mary Couts Burnett Library invites remarkable speakers—TCU faculty—to share their experiences and speak about their newest books or real-world experiences. The Library is proud of its faculty and their many successes and looks forward to sharing their achievements with the TCU community. Students, faculty and Friends of the TCU Library alike, attend the speaker series, which this year included a Dean from the Neeley School of Business and two TCU Professors of History.
O. Homer Erekson
John V. Roach Dean at TCU, Homer Erekson, and Rix Quinn were our guest speakers for the Fall FacultySpeak Lecture Series in October.
Erekson shared some entertaining, success stories from the contents of his book, Major Moments: Life-changing Lessons of Business Leaders from the Neeley School of Business at TCU. These business executives—alumni or key partners of the Neeley School—tell you about the ideas, innovations and discoveries which led to career advancement success. The collection of these stories are assembled as part of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Neeley School of Business at TCU.
Kenneth R. Stevens
Professor of history at TCU and historian of American Foreign Relations, Ken Stevens, spoke and signed copies of his new book, The Texas Legation Papers 1836–1845, at a TCU Press sponsored event at the Mary Couts Burnett Library.
Stevens shared historical facts of how these papers not only document a vital part of Texas history, but that they have a history of their own. Returned to Texas in 2004, the letters in The Texas Legation Papers 1836–1845 were considered lost for 150 years.
These lost papers reveal the untold stories surrounding the birth of the state of Texas. This is a book you will surely want to read, especially if you are a history enthusiast.
Gene Smith
Author and TCU History Professor, Gene Smith, spoke and signed copies of his new book, The Salves Gamble: Choosing Sides in the War of 1812.
Smith spoke to a large crowd about his new book which explores a little known aspect of the War of 1812 and American slavery. This drama sheds light on an extraordinary yet little known chapter in the dark saga of American history.
