"It has been said again and again that the heart of the university is its library. It must be repeated, often and with fervor, lest we lose its true meaning."
- Paul M. Parham, University Librarian 1968-86
As the TCU Friends celebrate 40 years of its founding in 1972, the university recognizes the importance of the library in its quest to enhance the university experience by creating a world-class library that facilitates exploration and scholarship. Plans are underway for renovations and improvements that will strengthen the Mary Couts Burnett Library services, resources and overall experience. TCU and the library are all about the experience. It's about opening minds and doors to success.
What makes a really good library even better? In the case of Mary Couts Burnett Library, it is the Friends of the TCU Library. Each year the Friends support the Library with special purchases for collections, the staff and facilities. In recent years the Friends provided funding for the purchase of C-19, a key database that indexes nineteenth century literature, funding for furniture in the Information Commons area and funding for a color digital book scanner which is used for scanning oversized books, maps, posters and fragile, older books. The Friends also have a long history of funding rare book purchases. For the last 40 years, the Friends of the TCU Library have enriched our campus with their generosity.
Friends membership is open to anyone who has an interest in Library programs and activities. We are proud of our Library and encourage you to become a member of the Friends of the TCU Library as TCU remains a gateway to global information for its students, faculty, staff and Friends.
