I share my joys about this
Library with many of you; well,
the fun continues! The Library
received two extraordinary gifts this
spring; each gift included thousands
and thousands of books.
The Modern Art Museum in Fort
Worth gave TCU more than 7,000
art books—a modern day treasure
trove! Library staff are in the
process of modifying computer
records for each volume to reflect inclusion of the books in the
library’s database. The second donation comes to us by way of
Dr. Harry Parker (Chair of TCU’s Theatre Department) whose
acquaintance with renowned theatre director, Mr. Lyle Dye,
resulted in the second gift. Thousands of books, playbills and
other memorabilia came to the Library this spring from Mr.
Dye. Library staff will process this collection as soon as they
finish processing the art books. Rarely do libraries receive
gifts of this caliber, but in TCU’s case, both came within
weeks of each other!
The library honored TCU faculty with an event, A
Celebration of Faculty Research and Creative Scholarship,
on April 10. Staff assembled examples of research and
creative scholarship from journal articles, books, video,
performance photographs and even a dress from the Fashion
Merchandising Department. We had extensive participation
by TCU faculty at the event and everyone thoroughly enjoyed
themselves.
Along with local colleagues from nearby universities, I took
on a project this spring to bring a national conference to
Fort Worth. ALADN 2018 brought together over 160 people
involved in academic library fundraising, both administrators
and fundraisers. The conference, hosted at The Worthington
Renaissance Fort Worth Hotel, offered programs over three
days along with social events at AT&T Stadium, Billy Bob’s
and a Texas Rangers game. I owe a debt of gratitude to many
library staff, to TCU Advancement and to TCU Accounting
for their help. It took many hands to make this possible. This
will come as no surprise to you, conference attendees thought
Fort Worth was a wonderful city!
Many other events made this spring a busy one. We are
looking forward to a quiet summer, but I know there are
interesting projects on the horizon this summer that I will
share in the next newsletter.
