“ Faculty Speak “
Each year, the Mary Couts Burnett Library invites remarkable speakers—TCU
faculty—to share their experiences and speak about their newest books or real-world
experiences. The Library is proud of its faculty and their many successes and looks
forward to sharing their achievements with the TCU community. Students, faculty and
Friends of the TCU Library alike, attend the speaker series.
Dr. Rhiannon Mayne
Oscar and Juanita Monnig Chair of Meteorites
and Planetary Science, Dr. Mayne discussed the
importance of meteorites for understanding the
history of the early Solar System. She also gave an
introduction to the Monnig Meteorite Collection
at TCU and shared hands-on examples from the
collection.
Dr. Melita M. Garza
Award-winning journalist with more than 20 years
professional experience in national and international
media, Dr. Melita Garza, spoke on Hoaxes,
Propaganda, News You Dislike and all that’s fake
in “Fake News.”
Garza shared facts, examples and experiences
of “Fake News” that she has experienced during
her years as a journalist at the Chicago Tribune,
Bloomberg News in New York, the McKinsey
Quarterly in London, the Milwaukee Journal and Los
Angeles Times. She also shared current examples of
“Fake News” in the current world of media.
