Children’s Pop-Up
Book Collection
Book collector and long-time elementary school teacher, Mary Kay Varley, recently donated a collection of children’s
pop-up books to Special Collections. More than 1,400 titles have been catalogued and more are being added every day. All
the books are in mint condition and many are signed by the author. We are very grateful for this collection as children’s
books are often so well used by their readers that few survive in good condition. Included in the collection are signed
editions of the pop-up books by Robert Sabuda, award-winning American artist and paper engineer, including the one
pictured from Alice in Wonderland.
Reading after a certain age, diverts the mind too much from its creative
pursuits. Any man who reads too much and uses his own brain too little falls
into lazy habits of thinking.
