Renew Items

The Renew Items feature allows Mary Couts Burnett Library users to view information from their patron record. The titles of books currently checked out, including the due dates, and any items currently on request are displayed. Renew Items allows users to renew any books currently checked out. If you need assistance with this feature, please call 817-257-7112.

Overdue Notices

All borrowers are responsible for observing due dates. Materials not returned on time are subject to fines and/or replacement costs, plus a non-refundable $15 processing fee. Two overdue notices are sent as courteous reminders before the matter is referred to TCU Financial Services. TCU faculty and students receive these notices in electronic format via e-mail.

Reserves

The Reserve Desk is located in the Circulation Department. Reserve items are materials removed from the general open-shelf collection at the request of an instructor who plans to assign them as collateral reading to a class. A TCU ID is required for check-out. Materials on reserve circulate for periods of time specified by the instructor. Only two reserve items may be checked out at any one time. Reserves may be checked out twice consecutively unless overdue. Overdue reserves must be surrendered for 24 hours before rechecking. Reserves are due by the date/time printed on the accompanying computer printout. Computer generated fines are assessed for all overdue items. Return reserve items directly to a staff member in Circulation for immediate discharge to avoid fines. DO NOT leave on the counter.

Recalls

TCU faculty and staff may recall items that are checked out. Recalls can be placed 14 days after original check out date. Recall cards are available at the Circulation Desk. Patrons recalling books are notified when items are returned. Failure to return recalled items within a specified time results in daily fines. Any patron may place a request on an item which cannot be readily located. Staff at the Circulation Desk will advise on procedure. Notification is sent regarding the status of our search. Items found are held for 7 days.

Bookdrops

Two external bookdrops allow for 24 hour book return. Both drops are at ground level; one on the south side of the building at the controlled access entrance, the other on the north side of the building with driveway access. Reserve items returned via the bookdrop are subject to fines. Reserve items should be handed directly to a staff member.

Fines and Lost Item Charges

Items not returned within 22 days of the due date are assumed to be lost and will be billed to the borrower through TCU Financial Services. Fine rate for overdue items is 75 cents per day per item. Lost charge is replacement cost of the item plus a $15 processing fee per item. Once billed, the processing fee is not refunded. Replacement cost will be refunded when the item is returned. Fines for Reserve materials are strictly enforced and will be sent to TCU Financial Services. Excessive fines will block library privileges.
