TCU welcomed its largest
incoming undergraduate class
this fall. There were 2,194 first-year
students and 491 transfer students.
I am very appreciative of the recent
library renovation as we now have
sufficient seating for the growing
size of TCU’s enrollment!
What surprises me is the need
for multiple, distinct seating
configurations within the Library …the traditional “quiet”
room with near silence (for individuals and also for groups)
and then seating options in the group study rooms that
encourage talking. Individual students use the various choices,
sometimes different options on the same day. Most students
bring a laptop, a phone, a backpack, a water bottle, along with
textbooks and notebooks. They intend to get work done!
We are looking forward to the first class of medical students
this coming summer. The TCU Library will collaborate
with the University of North Texas Health Science Center’s
(UNTHSC) Lewis Library to provide library services for the
medical students. Lewis Library is an existing medical library,
a Resource Library for the National Network of Libraries of
Medicine. The incoming students will have the best of both
worlds: a fully developed medical library with strong medical
collections and a fully developed university library with its
broad collections in disciplines that complement traditional
medical resources.
As I write this, we are approaching Christmas, always a
favorite time of year for me. I hope 2018 has been a good
year for everyone and that 2019 will have good news and
happiness for you. (Maybe I should try out for Santa Claus
somewhere!)
