Library hosting LGBTQIA+ exhibit

This semester, the Library is displaying federal documents and promoting a new research guide centered on the
LGBTQIA+ community.

The exhibit, on display in the Gearhart Reading Room, includes a wide range of literature and media featuring topics
such as the military’s former Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy, HIV/AIDS-related health care issues, hate crimes on college
campuses and discrimination in the workplace. Hundreds of materials from the Department of Defense, the Department of
Health and Human Services, the Department of Justice and Department of Veterans Affairs are available.

“As TCU furthers its effort to nurture and support an inclusive workplace, I am pleased to see exhibits like this, which
help ensure the experiences and successes of people with different backgrounds are both represented and appreciated,”
said Aisha Torrey-Sawyer, director for Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives.

The exhibit coincides with the official launch of Graduate Spectrum (formerly QUOTA), a student organization at TCU
dedicated to creating a more open, equal and accepting campus for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning,
intersex, asexual and ally students, staff and faculty.

“I am thrilled that the library took a simple request to partner with our group and turned it into a robust exhibit that will
help educate the campus community,” said Josh Friend, vice president of Graduate Spectrum.

“We were so happy to collaborate with graduate spectrum. It is our priviledge to support the LGBTQIA+ community at
TCU,” said Beth Callahan, senior library specialist.

The library is a member of the Federal Depository Library Program, and acquires, maintains and provides free access to
historical and current government information.

Trivia Night

Quick! What was the first video played by MTV? What
sport did Diego Maradona play? These questions and
more were asked at the Library’s first Trivia Night, on
November 8. The library was the perfect place for future
“Jeopardy!” contestants (TCU students) to test out their
knowledge of useless facts.

The trivia game consisted of categories made up of
questions pertaining to the 1980’s and 1990’s. It took a bit
of planning to figure out the best categories that college
students would be interested in. It did not disappoint.

The students loved the fun night of trivia! Student teams
answered trivia questions within a certain time frame to
score points and ultimately win PRIZES!

“Team Wham” won First Place; “Team Dream Meme”
took second place and the interestingly named team “In First Place” came in third place.
