Modem Pool serving as Internet Service Providor
- Solves problem for vendors using IP recognition; not for other scenarios.
- May not be practical to provide enough modems and phone lines to serve as ISP for all constituents
Proxy Server (“true proxy”)
- User configures browser to use a library server as a proxy. Works at packet level -- all requests for vendor site are routed through proxy server, so vendor site sees requests coming from institutional IP address.
- Solves problem for vendors using IP recognition; not for other scenarios.
- Not possible to provide different authorization based on patron class.
