DRA XML Patron Authentication Server (“PAS”)
- Form on vendor’s system requests ID/PIN, and forwards this info to DRA PAS. If patron exists, PAS sends info about patron back to vendor system to provide authentication.
- Eliminates need for institutional username/password, or IP address range.
- More centralized control of authentication data (no need to extract info from the patron file in other formats).
- DRA is working on developing into a standard; meanwhile, lack of widespread vendor support may be an issue.
- See “XML” in DRA Direct Vol. 7, Issue 1 (1st quarter 2000)
