• Z39.50

  • Easy to set up authorization between library server and vendor (just enter username and password in the settings file for vendor).
  • Controlling other side (patron->library) of authentication sequence may be more difficult -- current solution in use at TCU could probably be cracked by determined users.
  • Vendor must support Z39.50. Compromises inherent in Z39.50 access (database-specific indexing and limiting features may be lost) must be acceptable to library staff.

• Referrer URL

  • Vendor implements on their server using info supplied by library
  • Very little load on library server, simple to implement
  • Some browsers may not pass Referrer URL header correctly.
