Friends of the TCU Library

President's Welcome

Greetings! Welcome to the home page of the Friends of the TCU Library. Here we explain the purposes of the Friends and benefits of membership. You can learn about recent and upcoming programs, read our newsletter and obtain information about joining the Friends and becoming eligible to borrow books from the library. We appreciate your interest in the Friends and invite your participation in the organization and its many programs.

Founded in 1972, the Friends are dedicated to furthering the goals of Mary Couts Burnett Library at Texas Christian University. In addition to supporting the library financially, the Friends sponsor several programs each year which emphasize the importance of books, electronic resources, and other forms of information which encourage reading and focus on current events and scholarship. Most of the speakers are authors, and most programs are open to the public.

Among our popular endeavors that we again bring forward this term is the Friend's FacultySpeak Lecture series. Twice a year we feature a TCU faculty member. This past year Dr. Fred Erisman spoke about his book Boys' Books, Boys' Dreams and the Golden Age of Flight and Dr. Gregg Cantrell presented a program about the Texas Legation Papers currently housed in the Library's Special Collections Department. Timothy Egan, winner of the fourth biennial TCU Texas Book Award for The Worst Hard Times: The Untold Story of Those who Survived the Great American Dust Bowl, was the featured speaker at the 35th annual spring banquet.

Friends membership is open to anyone who has an interest in Library programs and activities. We are justifiably proud of the TCU Library, and we encourage you to become a member of the Friends of the TCU Library. Join us in ensuring that TCU remains a dynamic gateway to global information for its students, faculty, staff, and Friends.
